AOT – The First Solution to the Problem

The navigation systems being marketed today are able to prevent you from getting lost, they are however incapable of solving the actual problem – how to get you from your starting point to your final destination in the most cost and time efficient way.

AOT is short for “always on time”. AOT provides the customers with their own software and knowledge from a database; the information is stored in a modern mobile phone. For the first time this unique ‘Knowledge in your Pocket‘ about the travelled road network and the actual travel times enables AOT customers to always find the optimal route to their destination. Routine routes as well as first trips to unknown destinations are equally supported by this system.

With the data stored in the mobile phone (location of residence plus a 40 km radius) the customers can be directed to their destinations without the need for annoying inquiries and without any additional costs. The method of choosing the optimal route is primarily based on actual travel times. Acoustic or visual guidance can be selected. The data in the mobile phone can be updated and complemented at any time from the AOT database.

In analogy to the replacement of car phones through mobile phones (from Euro 8000, - down to Euro 400, -) AOT will revolutionise today’s navigation system market by using modern mobile phones (from up to Euro 4000, - down to Euro 200, -). The hardware that is currently installed in the car will be replaced by a mobile phone with a re-writeable data storage system. At the same time the route recommendations will be far superior to currently available solutions.

The AOT route recommendation is based on historically recorded and currently feasible travel times considering the time of day, the day of the week and the travel direction. On a Monday morning during rush hour, for example, the system will recommend two different routes depending on whether you are travelling into or out of the city. The knowledge base is constantly expanded – the system is capable of learning and it would not repeat a recognizably “bad” recommendation. In short: the knowledge of the best taxi drivers in town is always on board. Even if the car is parked in a parking lot, AOT will continue to direct you to the city centre through your mobile phone.

By replacing maps on CDs which only contain static data through daily updated demand-oriented data, large volumes of data have to be transferred into “the hand of the customer“. There are a number of possibilities how this can be achieved, one of which is UMTS. AOT is not only an application capable of using modern mobile phone protocols in a meaningful way, but more importantly it will be using them to their full capacity. Futhermore, the solution is not restricted to Germany, but can be applied worldwide.
